Hi Ladies,

Do you suffer from Vaginitis?  The most common forms of Vaginitis include Bacterial Vaginosis, Yeast Infection and Trichomoniasis.

Please don't think you're suffering alone.  Vaginitis affects millions of women each year and it's one of the primary reasons women visit their doctors.

What is Vaginitis?

Simply put, vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina ("itis" means inflammation).  Vaginitis is a common gynecological problem found in women of all ages.  The majority of women have at least one form of vaginitis at some point in their lives.  Most women think of  "yeast infection" when they hear the word vaginitis, however, a yeast infection is only one kind of vaginal infection.

A healthy vagina is home to a huge variety of bacteria. Normally, these bacteria live harmoniously in an acidic environment that prevents the overproduction of any one species within the vagina.  Vaginitis is usually caused by a change in the normal balance of vaginal bacteria, although it can also be caused by an infection.

Viruses, yeast, bacteria, and sometimes chemicals in creams or sprays can cause vaginitis as well. Sometimes vaginitis is passed between sexual partners. In addition, the vaginal environment is influenced by a number of different factors including a woman's health, her personal hygiene, various medications, hormones (particularly estrogen), and the health of her sexual partner. A disturbance in any of these factors can trigger vaginitis.

Vaginitis may be asymptomatic, but usually leads to significant vaginal itching and irritation causing the patient to seek professional help or to practice self care at home.

When present, common symptoms may include:

    • inflammation
    • foul vaginal odor
    • vaginal discharge
    • light vaginal bleeding
    • discomfort or burning when urinating
    • pain/irritation with sexual intercourse
    • irritation and/or itching of the genital area

We discuss many alternatives you may wish to consider in treating Bacterial Vaginosis, Yeast Infections, and Trichomoniasis.  Some remedies are by prescription only, while others are treatments you can do in the privacy of your own home with easily attainable ingredients.  Of course, it's always best to consult your physician or healthcare provider so a definite diagnosis can be made and proper treatment alternatives can be recommended for your specific type of vaginitis.
